London: Movie star and UN ambassador Angelina Jolie will not rule out a move into American politics if the opportunity arises, she said.

Asked on the BBC’s Today program – which she guest edited – if she intended to run for president, Jolie said: “If you asked me 20 years ago, I would have laughed … I always say I’ll go where I’m needed, I don’t know if I’m fit for politics … but then I’ve also joked that I don’t know if I have a skeleton left in my closet.”

Jolie said that she was happy with her current job as a campaigner against sexual violence, in which she had access to governments and militaries, “so I sit in a very interesting place of being able to get a lot done.” But Jolie added: “For now I’ll stay quiet.”

Asked if her name should be added to the list of “30 to 40 Democrats” expected to run for office in 2020, Jolie said: “Thank you.”
