Russia disappointed at US return to ‘Star Wars’
Moscow: Moscow is disappointed that Washington prefers returning to the ‘Star Wars’ program instead of a meaningful dialogue on space affairs, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a comment.
The emphasis is made in the new US Missile Defense Review released on January 17 on establishing a space-based BMD group, including missile interceptors, the Ministry notes.
“We are deeply disappointed that the United States has preferred returning to implementation of the next version of the ‘Star Wars’ program of President Ronald Reagan’s times instead of building up the meaningful dialog on strategic stability matters and prevention of the arms race in space,” the Ministry says.
Russia supports use and exploration of space for peaceful goals only and has no plans like the ones set in the new US Missile Defense program, the Foreign Ministry adds.
