Russia plans expedition to Severnaya Zemlya
Arkhangelsk: Russia’s Northern branch of the hydro-meteorology service (UGMS) jointly with the National Geographic magazine plans an expedition to Severnaya Zemlya.
The expedition will be on board the Professor Molchanov scientific vessel, the hydro-meteorology service’s head, Roman Yershov, said.
“On board the Professor Molchanov we plan an expedition <…> to Severnaya Zemlya,” he said. “The expedition is organized jointly with National Geographic with Enric Sala.”
The expedition is planned for late August – September, 2019, he continued. “It will be similar to the expedition of 2013 to Franz Josef Land, a complex expedition, but this time it will be to Severnaya Zemlya,” he added.
In 2013, the Russian Arctic National Park participated in a joint expedition on board the Polaris to the Franz Josef Land Archipelago. National Geographic USA published an article about the archipelago.
