President & Prime minister regret the loss of lives and property in A.K. earthquake
Islamabad: Jolts of earthquake, measuring 5.8 on the Richter Scale, were felt in different parts of the country.
According to National Seismic Monitoring Centre Islamabad, epicenter of the earthquake was five kilometer north of Jhelum, while its depth was recorded as 10 kilometers.
The tremors were felt in Islamabad, Daska, Lahore, Faisalabad, Peshawar, Chiniot, Mansehra, Batagram, Torghar, Mirpur (Azad Kashmir) Bhimber, Jhelum, and Mandi Bahauddin.
President, Dr Arif Alvi has expressed deep sorrow and grief over the loss of lives and property due to earthquake in Azad Kashmir, Islamabad and other parts of the country. He prayed for the departed souls and early recovery of the injured. The President also expressed solidarity with the affected families.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed all the concerned departments to provide immediate assistance of all kinds to carry out relief activities in the quake-hit areas.
In a statement, the Prime Minister also expressed concerns over losses as a result of the earthquake.
Army Chief, General Qamar Javed Bajwa has also directed immediate rescue operation in aid of civil administration for victims of earthquake in Azad Kashmir.
According to a tweet by Director General ISPR, Major General Asif Ghafoor, Army troops with aviation and medical support teams have been dispatched to the affected sites.
