Government’s claims regarding loan relief are false: PPP
Islamabad: Secretary Finance Pakistan Peoples Party Haider Zaman Qureshi has said that the government’s claims regarding loan relief are false.
In a statement he said that Pakistan was unsuccessful in getting relief from the G-20 countries as the request to soften loan payments was not officially sent to them from Islamabad. The important thing is that neither did Pakistan send a request to the G-20 countries, nor did they make any announcement regarding this matter. This is why the information regarding the issue of relief is misleading. He said that only those countries that sent requests prior to the G-20 meeting will be qualified to get reliefs.
Haider Zaman Qureshi said that if Pakistan submitted the application and had it been approved, it could have received up to $1.5 billion worth of relief. The tension between the State Bank of Pakistan and the Ministry of Finance in this regard is concerning. He said that the PTI government only believes in giving speeches on the television. The PTI government is not serious about its policies which have severely damaged the economy.
