Ambassador Nong Rong will be “highly successful” in Pakistan: Mushahid Hussain Sayed
Islamabad: Chairman Pakistan Senate’s Foreign Affairs Committee Mushahid Hussain Sayed has paid glowing tribute to Ambassador Nong Rong saying the new envoy will be “highly successful.”
Speaking to Newswire after a meeting here with the Chinese Ambassador, Senator Sayed said Nong Rong had the ability to cement the existing friendly ties between Pakistan and China.
“Ambassador Nong Rong is very warm and personable. He has a good insight on issues, with an out-of-box approach which brings freshness to his assignment,” said the veteran lawmaker.
The senior Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) leader foresaw progress in Pakistan-China relations under Ambassador Nong’s watch. “I’ve no doubt Ambassador Nong Rong will be a highly successful envoy of China, as he has an impressive desire to learn and seek new ideas to strengthen Pakistan-China camaraderie,” he added.
The Chairman Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, who also heads the Pakistan China Institute, said that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was a guarantor of prosperous Pakistan.
“It is a pillar of Pakistan-China Friendship. The CPEC will continue with the same momentum as before during its new phase. There is no question of CPEC slowing down or being stopped, as it is the core interest of Pakistan like the nuclear programme and Kashmir issue”.
After the meeting, Ambassador Rong tweeted: “Honoured to be hosted by @Mushahid Hussain, Chairman of Foreign Affairs Committee Senate. A pleasant exchange on China-Pak relations & issue of mutual interest.”
In a separate tweet, the envoy said: “The Rashakai SEZ (Special Economic Zone), launched by the Prime Minister @ImranKhanPTI in May 2019, is the first CPEC industrial cooperation project. It will create thousands of employments, stimulate the local economy and boost the export enormously.”
Ambassador Nong Rong recently assumed his responsibilities in Pakistan. He is a political appointee who has expertise in trade and commerce.
The new envoy has met Pakistan’s top civil and military leadership including President Arif Alvi, Prime Minister Imran Khan, army chief Qamar Javed Bajwa and other key officials in the last few weeks.
Ambassador Rong is expected to give a push to the quick completion of the CPEC projects in the months to come.
