Parliamentarians celebrate Benazir Bhutto’s birthday

Islamabad: Former premier Benazir Bhutto’s 68th birthday was celebrated all over Pakistan, including parliament house Islamabad.

Senate Opposition leader senator Yousaf Raza Gillani cut Benazir Bhutto’s birthday cake along with PPP senators, including senator Saleem Mandviwalla, Senator Sherry Rehman, Senator Farooq Naik, Senator Rukhsana Zuberi, Senator Shamim Afridi, Senator Imamuddin Shoqeen, Senator Bahramand Tangi and Raja Pervez Ashraf.

Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Yousuf Raza Gilani said the martyrdom of Benazir Bhutto had created a vacuum in the country today.

He said Shaheed Mohtarma struggled for democracy, the people and all sections. Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto sacrificed her life for the people. A question regarding role of the speaker of national assembly, Gillani said.

The Speaker is the custodian of the House. In Pakistan we follow parliamentary form of government, in which The Speaker protects the rights of the members and not the government.

“We must establish good traditions in parliament. There are also problems during my tenure as Speaker. The Speaker should issue production orders to members of the opposition. The government may also need production in the future,” he added.
