Italy Venice to host world

Venice: Spencer, the highly anticipated biopic about Princess Diana, will have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival in September, reports Variety.

Pablo Larraín’s drama, starring Kristen Stewart in the lead role, was written by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight and will be screened in the competition section of the veteran Italian festival.

Set on the Sandringham royal estate in the early 1990s, the film centres on a weekend when Diana made the decision to separate from Prince Charles amid rumours of affairs.

Stewart stars opposite Poldark actor Jack Farthing, in the role of Prince Charles, among a cast that includes Timothy Spall, Sally Hawkins and Sean Harris.

The film is expected to be an Oscar contender when it comes out in 2022 on the 25th anniversary of Diana’s death.
