Entire coastal line of Pakistan over an area of 1000 kilometers would be made clean and green: CPEC Authority chief

Islamabad: China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Authority chief Lt. General Asim Saleem Bajwa (retd) has said that that the entire coastal line of Pakistan over an area of 1000 kilometers would be made clean and green under the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

“Investment in Green Gwadar is just the beginning, now we are working on a coastal plantation project in line with the PM’s vision of Clean and Green Pakistan”, he said in a tweet.

Sharing a video about Gwadar Green House Nursery, he said, “It’s a revolution in the making for the entire 1000 km coastal belt.”

Earlier, Professor Wang Sen from the Central South University of Forestry and Technology (CSUFT), Changsha had said that efforts were being made not only to build a beautiful port, but also to develop the economic forest industry in the Gwadar city.

“Even in the temperate zone with sufficient rain and fertile soil, trees may die, let alone on a tropical arid desert,” he said.

Last year, during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, the Chinese port operator at Pakistan’s southwest Port of Gwadar focused its attention on forest-planting, and has now successfully completed a friendship forest in a city situated in a desert climate, gifting the city its first ever green park.

Located in Pakistan’s southwest province of Balochistan, Gwadar Port is a key project of the CPEC, a flagship project of the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

Since its operation, the port has begun to play a new role as an economical transit stop and time-saving trade port for land-locked Afghanistan when it ships fertilizer.

A total of 100,000 trees, shrubs and flowers that resist high-temperature, high saline-alkali soils were planted, with a 10,000-meter-long irrigation pipeline system, and a storage tanker holding up to 3,000 cubic meters of water, according to the company.
