CPEC: Rs 2 billion Pakistan-China Technical and Vocational Training Institute almost complete

Islamabad: Pakistan-China Technical and Vocational Training Institute, being built with a cost of Rs 2 billion under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), is almost complete, the authorities said.

More than 90 percent construction work on the Pakistan-China Technical and Vocational Training Institute is already complete, said a government spokesperson.

The project is being built in the port city of Gwadar and would be fully functional by December 2021. The local youth would be provided technical training to prepare a skilled force.

In May, the Balochistan government had exempted the Pakistan-China Technical Vocational Institute Gwadar project from payment of stamp duty for 2014 and 2020.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the provincial cabinet held with Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan Alyani in the chair.

Alyani said a comprehensive strategy was being made for all sectors. The meeting discussed various issues and took important decisions.

The cabinet approved tax exemption from stamp duty for the Pakistan-China Technical Vocational Institute Gwadar project for 2014 and 2020 and decided to set up a cabinet sub-committee for framing Balochistan hotels and restaurants rules, 2021, headed by the provincial adviser for culture and sports.

The project is aimed at establishing a state-of-the-art vocational and technical training institute in Gwadar.

“The project will enhance the skills of the local population of Gwadar to participate in the growth of the port city and bring investment, business and tourism in the area,” official media reported.

The institute would help fulfill maritime skilled manpower requirements of the Gwadar Port after the development of industrial projects, including the Gwadar Port Free Zone, Export Processing Zone and other industrial and port-related projects.

It comprises a main building, having two blocks, an administration block, four workshops, cafeteria, hostels, parking areas, an examination block and a teachers lodging facility.
