Karachi: Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar has said that work on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC)’s Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) and freight corridor projects would start in this fiscal year, ending in June 2022.

He said the Green Line Bus Rapid Transit System (BRT) service in Karachi would become operational by October this year.

“Prime Minister Imran Khan reviewed progress of five federal projects in Karachi transformation plan and Green line BRT will start from October this year,” he said in his tweet.

He said storm water drains, sewage, and roads project would be completed this fiscal year.

In addition, Umar said the construction of the K-IV water project, modern Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) and freight corridor projects would also start in this fiscal year.

Previously, Asad Umar had said the projects under the CPEC were progressing at a fast pace during the tenure of the incumbent government.

The way the government handled the pandemic situation and made efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19, it would also continue working day and night for the success of CPEC, he said.

Umar said the CPEC had now entered the most important second phase. The projects were now not limited to infrastructure only, he remarked.
