Karachi: PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and former premier Benazir Bhutto’s daughter Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari said that the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) banning women attending political rallies is pathetic.
The PPP leader took to twitter and said that 50 percent of the population was women. “Social & political space shrinking – decisions like this reiterate a cultural mindset predating Islam,” she added.
Bakhtawar Bhutto mentioned that these decisions must be corrected because our religion gave women rights and will not have ignorance take them away.
“PDM banning women from attending jalsas is pathetic. 50% of our population is women. Social & political space shrinking – decisions like this reiterate a cultural mindset predating Islam. Must be corrected. Our religion gave women rights & will not have ignorance take them away,” she tweeted.
Meanwhile, Central Information Secretary Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians and member of the National Assembly Shazia Atta Marri expressed her regret and condemns the decision of PDM regarding imposing ban on woman’s entry in their tomorrow’s public gathering at Karachi.
She said that democracy is not only for men in the country, women have also been playing significant role in the existence and for the achievement of democracy in the country as well.
Marri said that since the inception of Pakistan, women have rendered their great sacrifices and worked hard for democracy in the country.
She further said that PDM’s announcement had hurt the people with democratic thinking in Pakistan. She added that “we were not expecting from PDM that it would take such sort of extremist decisions.”
She said that PPP appreciates the struggle of women and their hard work for the sustainability of democracy in the country and PPP strongly condemn PDM’s this decision.
