Multi-layer security mechanism to ensure security to CPEC projects, Chinese nationals, Pakistani Senate told

Islamabad: The Pakistani Senate was informed on Wednesday afternoon that a multi-layer security mechanism had been developed for ensuring provision of security to CPEC projects and Chinese nationals.

Responding to a question during the Question Hour, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan said that National Counter Terrorism Authority was fully functional and ensuring timely threat alerts.

Talking about the steps being taken by the government to improve internal security of the country in relation with situation in Afghanistan, he maintained that a border management wing for security on borders is working in the Ministry of Interior.

He explained that the National Crisis and Information Management Cell had been established in the Ministry of Interior which was directly dealing with internal security of the country.

The minister mentioned that a special group comprising representatives of all concerned departments have been established to tackle the influx of foreigners and Afghans in Pakistan.

He said the Afghan authorities had assured that Afghan soil will not be allowed to be used for carrying out terrorist activities against Pakistan. Responding to a question, Minister for Railways Azam Khan Swati announced that the tentative deadline for operationalization of CPECs modern Karachi-Circular Railways on public private partnership mode was the end of 2023 and there will be 4,75,000 commuters per day.

He stated that the Nowshera-Mardan track will be operationalized in the next couple of weeks, while the Mardan-Dargai track will be started in three months.
