China calls on world community to provide assistance to Afghanistan

Beijing: China on Tuesday called on the international community to provide necessary support and assistance to Afghanistan. “We once again call on the international community to provide necessary support and assistance to Afghanistan,” Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Zhao Lijian said during his regular briefing held here.

He said that as a friendly neighbor and sincere friend of Afghanistan, China has always provided assistance within its capacity for the peaceful reconstruction and economic development of Afghanistan. According to the needs of the Afghan people, China is speeding up the implementation of emergency humanitarian assistance worth 200 million yuan to Afghanistan, he added.

While commenting on one million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine and 1.6 million syringes donated by China to Afghanistan, he said that the vaccines and syringes transported to Kabul on Monday morning, were part of the aforementioned assistance.

Zhao Lijian informed that in addition, to help the Afghan people survive the severe winter, China would provide Afghanistan with food aid worth 30 million yuan. Those countries that bear responsibility for the Afghan issue should not evade responsibility or set up obstacles for any reason, he added.

It may be mentioned here that vaccines and syringes donated by China were transported from Beijing to Kabul to help Afghanistan counter the spread of the coronavirus in the country.
