Islamabad: Pakistan will offer Permanent Residency (PR) to wealthy Chinese nationals who want to stay and invest in the country under a new National Security Policy, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said.
Prime Minister Imran Khan had launched the public version of the first-ever National Security Policy document at a ceremony in the Prime Minister’s Office.
Prime Minister Khan in his keynote address had explained the significance of his government’s successful initiative of producing the National Security Policy.
Later, in a tweet, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said: “In line with new National Security Policy, through which Pakistan declared geo-economics as core of its national security doctrine, the government has decided to allow permanent residency scheme for foreign nationals, new policy allows foreigners to get permanent resident status in lieu of investment.”
He added that the Pakistan government will offer PR to foreign investors, especially to fetch heavy investments from wealthy Chinese, Afghan and American Sikhs.
Pakistan expects to fetch billions of US dollars of foreign investment by giving Pakistani nationality and proprietary rights to the foreign investors.
Prime Minister Khan had in his recent statements hinted that he wanted to attract top Chinese investors who relocated their industries to other countries in the region.
Prime Minister Khan is scheduled to pay a three day visit to China from February 3 to attend the opening ceremony of Winter Olympics Games, Beijing 2022 at the invitation of Chinese leadership.
During his visit, Prime Minister Khan will have interaction with the Chinese leadership to further strengthen Pakistan-China all-weather strategic cooperative partnership and to exchange views on regional and international issues.
Foreign Office spokesperson Asim Iftikhar Ahmed said Pakistan looked forward to the successful Winter Olympics in Beijing.
“Pakistan welcomed the Global Development Initiative put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping as a timely and good intention step to facilitate implementation of the UN 2030 agenda for sustainable development,” he told a recent media briefing.
He noted the initiative will help promote international cooperation required to overcome the triple challenge faced by the world including Covid-19, related economic crisis and climate change.
Pakistan is also aiming to attract heavy investments from the wealthy Afghan nationals who were presently investing in countries such as Iran, Turkey and Malaysia.
Islamabad also hopes that US-based Sikh nationals would be happy to make investment in different sectors in Pakistan due to their affection with Sikh religious sites in the country.
The government also expects that the rich Arabs rulers, who visit Pakistan every year for hunting purpose, would like to have Pakistani PR.
