Islamabad: President Dr Arif Alvi has said that China took 800 million people out of poverty by improving healthcare system.
Chairing a meeting of the senior leadership of Agha Khan University (AKU) here at the center of innovation in medical education AKU, the President underlined the need for technological expertise in healthcare system.
The President urged the healthcare professionals and workers to follow the Chinese experience and drag the Pakistani poor out of the poverty.
He stressed that the healthcare system of the country required to focus on preventive side of health rather than curative.
While highlighting importance of preventive side of healthcare, President Dr Arif Alvi said that many people in our country avoid to visit hospitals, particularly in private hospitals due to expensiveness of treatment.
“Our hospitals including AKU need to look into this trend and focus on promoting the preventive aspect of healthcare,” he added.
He mentioned that 80% of the component in dentistry could be virtual or online. “Several Nursing Courses and programs could also go online in order to increase the quantum of nursing staff in our country,” he suggested.
President Alvi said that China took 800 million people out of poverty by improving healthcare system under a disciplined effort.
He asked the faculty and doctors of AKU to establish a group of visionary thinkers to make quality and relevant healthcare system. Earlier, President Arif Alvi was briefed on AKU’s social impact as a national asset by providing services in basic education, outreach health services, examination system and research. President Alvi appreciated services of AKU as an iconic for the leading hospitals in Pakistan.
