UAF lauded for China ties, global connections
Faisalabad: Former President Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan Ambassador-designate to the United States Sardar Masood Khan has lauded the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) faculty members for connecting across the globe, especially China.
He was addressing the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) faculty members at the New Senate Hall here.
Sardar Masood Khan appreciated the UAF for being connected across the globe with the academic and research institutions in different countries. He mentioned that links with China were beneficial for the UAF and the Pakistanis.
Khan stressed that it was an era of technological revolutions, and there was a need for investing in new technologies and universities in order to compete with the rest of the world.
He reminded that that the UAF has the great history from colonial era and it proved as instrumental in steering Green Revolution in 1960, and 1970.
“I am happy to know that you are investing in innovative technologies and coming up with cutting edge technologies and great outreach,” he remarked and added that agriculture was directly linked to economic uplift and poverty alleviation. “Agriculture is the backbone of our economy,” he maintained.
He acknowledged the efforts of UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan and his connectivity skills for establishing ties at government level and universities at national and international level.
“We have to prepare the younger generation for future as 64 percent of our populations is below 30 years,” he noted.
He advised that the agricultural scientists should enhance their efforts to ensure the food security. “Pakistan is the hub for regional prosperity and we have to turn the challenges into the opportunities and emerge as the great nation on the piece of the earth,” Khan empahsiosed.
UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan on the occasion said that 30 new varieties of wheat were being tested in UAF to increase the average production.
He underscored that the UAF was committed to promote the research on precision agriculture, policy, climate changes, curriculum reforms and bio technology.
