Mirpur: The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government led by Prime Minister Sardar Tanveer Ilays Khan has said the Chinese nationals in the AJK were safe.

PM Khan also ordered strict security for the Chinese brothers and sisters after the recent terrorist attack at the University of Karachi, to avert any untoward incident in the State.

Chairing a high-level meeting which was attended by the heads of various security agencies in Mirpur, Prime Minister Khan issued special directives to the law enforcement agencies urging them to ensure the safety of life and property of all foreigners, in particular the Chinese engineers working in different areas of the state.

He also asked the security agencies to keep a close eye on enemy’s activities in the areas adjacent to the Line of Control.

The security agencies had also been directed to ensure foolproof security arrangements at all exit and entrance points of Azad Kashmir. Moreover, security had been beefed up in the state in wake of upcoming festival of Eidul Fitr to avoid any untoward incident on the auspicious occasion.

The AJK PM said that the Chinese nationals were safe in the State and will be provided any security they want for their satisfaction.

He maintained that China had invested huge money in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and it was Pakistan and AJK’s duty to provide security to the projects and workers.

In a separate session with government secretaries the PM Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan emphasised on evolving a sustainable policy for the establishment of good governance in the region.

The PM while apprising the secretaries of his government’s priorities stressed that merit-based appointments would be first and foremost priority of the government.

“The government is supposed to create facilities for the people, improve life and provide relief to the masses,” he said, adding the government would take concrete steps that would be instrumental in improving the lives of the common people.

PM Khan mentioned that the government was well aware of the problems faced by the secretaries. “The government is aware of these issues and will try to resolve them,” he remarked.
