Italy: Easy grocery shopping delivery services in Rome
Rome: Always nostalgic for the supermarkets back home, as well as the car to load a formidable grocery haul into, the delivery services that have descended on the Eternal City (to which the pandemic has certainly contributed), are a welcome convenience .
Just a few years ago it was difficult to even get a pizza delivered in Rome. While we value the quality of food from local markets, we don’t always have time to hit the vegetable stand, butcher, and pharmacy every day.
Here are the home delivery grocery shopping services to turn to if you, like us, live near a tiny little “supermarket”, and don’t have any extra arms to carry home more than two bags of groceries.
Esselunga: Italy’s first ever supermarket, having opened in Milan, is now in Rome and offering grocery delivery across the city.
Download the Esselunga app and shop their thousands of products. At first, the amount of choices may be overwhelming, but the app saves your shopping list, making checkout easier the second time.
The delivery windows are in two hour increments from 7am- 11pm, 7 days a week at a cost of €6.90. If you spend more than €110 delivery is free.
Everli: Formerly Supermercato24, Everli does the shopping for you in practically all of the large supermarkets in Italy: you register, select the store, add the products to the cart, plan the delivery, which can be done in less than two hours.
An Everli shopper takes care of the actual shopping, and calls in case something is not available on the shelves.
The fast delivery costs €6.30, but you can sign up for a subscription plus for unlimited deliveries that includes even the fast ones (€12.90/ month or €118?year).
Glovo Express: For those who are in need of an immediate delivery, for some time now Glovo Express has been offering a complimentary service through supermarkets.
You can receive products within 20 minutes, from fruit to vegetables, from fresh to frozen foods, from personal care items and household items to those for babies.
The service is active in Milan, Turin, Rome, Naples, Palermo, Bari, Florence, Bologna and the cost of delivery is €1.49.
Gorillas: Gorillas delivers more than a thousand products at the same price as a supermarket and with a €1.80 delivery fee.
The service is currently active in Bergamo, Milan, Rome and Turin where Gorillas, among other initiatives, has also launched a project to combat waste: every Monday, Wednesday and Friday you can shop a selection of products close to expiration at a reduced price from 11 to midnight.
Getir: Getir delivers in 10 minutes. Indeed, this service from Turkey, emphasises that it was the first to offer an ultra-fast grocery delivery service.
In Italy it is present in Milan and Rome. Grocery shopping is easy, choosing from products divided by category, including offers and city specialties (in Rome, beers).
Amazon Fresh: Amazon, pioneer of quick deliveries, also offers Amazon Fresh, a service that allows Prime customers to take advantage of grocery delivery in 2-hour increments, from 8am to midnight, at no additional cost for orders over €50.
There is everything from fruits and vegetables to prepared food, as well as home, kid and animal products.
It works as Amazon always does: you choose, put in your cart, and buy in one click.
The service is in operation in Milan, Turin, Rome, Bologna and surrounding areas through Amazon’s shopping app or directly on the website.
Quomi: Known in Italy for their meal kits, i.e. kits with everything you need to make delicious dishes.
But Quomi also delivers boxes of fruit and vegetables, meat, fish, cheese and other products that come from 80 producers selected for freshness and sustainability.
Only seasonal ingredients, not from intensive farming and little or no industrial processing, and already portioned to avoid waste.
