Floods: Funds keep coming from China to Pakistan, China State Construction Engineering Cooperation donates Rs 10 million
Islamabad: The Chinese government and the Chinese companies continue to fund rehabilitation efforts for the flood affectees in Pakistan as a Chinese Construction Firm, China State Construction Engineering Cooperation Limited donated Pakistani Rs 10 million for the restoration of affected areas of Pakistan during the devastating floods and heavy rains.
In this regard, the Chinese company presented a cheque of Rs 10 million to the Chairman National Highway Authority (NHA) Muhammad Khurrum Agha at a donation ceremony held at National Highway Authority Auditorium.
On Thursday, another Chinese company China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) had presented a cheque worth US $ 100,000 to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to contribute to Prime Minister’s Flood Relief Fund.
While presenting the donation to the NHA chairman, Minister-Counselor Xie Guoxiang and First Secretary Zhu Songsong of Chinese Embassy reiterated that China-Pakistan Friendship was based on sincere sentiments for the well-being of people of both friendly states.
They mentioned that heavy rains and floods had badly damaged the infrastructure of Pakistan and China has extended all possible assistance to set all the affected sectors right.
This little donation was also a part of backing benefits. China has always stood with Pakistan and this time tested relationship will continue in the years to come, they maintained.
The representatives of China State Construction Engineering Cooperation were also present on the occasion and the ceremony was rounded off with exchange of souvenirs and commemorative shields from both the sides.
On the occasion, Chairman NHA acknowledged that China had always extended a helping hand to Pakistan at all times as a true friend. “Whenever needed China has always extended a helping hand to Pakistan and it may rightly be termed “A Friend in need,” he added.
He also commended the cooperation of China provided for rescue and relief operation undertaken for ease of the rains and floods affected people in Pakistan.
He recalled the Chinese support for restoration of road network during the disaster which paved the way to accelerate the pace of relief operation in various parts of the country.
Agha said: “It is a source of pride for us that Chinese Companies engaged in construction and development process are performing exemplary services.” He appreciated the long term support of China for sharing the agonies of the needy.
China’s continuous response efforts for Pakistan have exceeded 644.1 million RMB (equivalent to more than US $ 90.2 million) so far.
The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Pakistan recently shared details about China’s support for Pakistan in flood relief.
Several Pakistan-based Chinese companies are also taking part in relief activities while the Chinese government is also expected to help the country in rehabilitation activities.
