African Envoys Commemorate 36th AU Summit in Islamabad
Islamabad: The ambassadors of African countries to Pakistan gathered here on Thursday to commemorate outcomes of the 36th African Union Summit held last week in its Headquarter at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The historic gathering was hosted by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to Pakistan H.E. Jemal Beker Abdula.
All the ambassadors praised H.E. Jemal Beker Abdula for his initiative which was crucial to further strengthen bilateral, multilateral and global cooperation among the African countries.
Addressing the gathering of African ambassadors, H.E. Jemal Beker said today gathering was aimed at celebrating the success stories of the African Union and its future role in furthering Pan-Africanism to realize the “Vision 2063: The Africa We Want”.
He highlighted vibrant and leading role played by African Union for the global peace and security in the fast-changing global dynamism. The AU has been striving to transform the continent of Africa into the global power by promoting unity and solidarity between its member states and boosting the socio-economic cooperation through regional integration.
“So far, with collective will and wise and visionary leadership, the union has made unimaginable achievements. Be it a COVID-19 or any other endemic, terrorism or climate change, the initiatives of the AU speak volume about its remarkable performance,” he remarked.
With unity among its member states, he said the AU had successfully been implementing its vision of “Africa solutions for the African problems” and the signing of the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement between the Government of Ethiopia and TPLF in Pretoria last year was a true manifestation of this principle.
He said the Government of Ethiopia and its people were grateful to South Africa for hosting the historic peace dialogue on the Motherland Africa and also to Kenya for facilitating the two round Nairobi discussion that ended the last two years bloody unwanted conflicts.
He lauded the role of AU for guiding members states and inter-governmental agencies in countering immense challenges faced by the continent including climate change, terrorism and others.
The ambassador said the 2023 AU summit was unique in a way as it marked 60 years of the Establishment of AU and also 10 years of the Agenda 2063 which was worked out to ensure inclusive and sustainable development of Africa.
Eulogizing the leadership of Africa for its resolve and commitment to pan-africanism, he said this year the African Leaders gathered at the time in Addis Ababa when the world was marked by Ukraine-Russia war, supply chain disruption and fragile global order.
However, all they agreed was to strengthen fraternity among member states and optimum utilization of multi stakeholders and wisemen of Africa for resolving all the existing problems of the region and to project its power and get its appropriate position in international arena.
He said they also agreed to evolve a comprehensive strategy to ensure maritime security by ensuring patrolling across all the oceans which crosses the region. The consensus was also evolved among the state members to double the utilization of financial resources to curb climate change threat, ensure peace and security and also quality education and health services in every country of the African continent by fast tracking socio-economic development process.
The establishment of energy infrastructure for regional integration is another area for which all the leaders agreed unanimously.
Dean of the African Corps and Ambassador of Morocco to Pakistan Mohammed Karmoune extended gratitude to H.E. Jemal Beker for hosting the gathering and also highlighted importance of promoting fraternity and pan-africanism in achieving the aspiration of Africa Peoples and play significant role in the current global dynamism.
