Guardiola dreams of working in Italy
Rome: Pep Guardiola’s assistant manager confirms the Manchester City boss ‘adores’ the country and ‘it’s his dream to work in Italy,’ but the media is tougher to deal with than in England.
Guardiola still speaks Italian after playing for Roma and Brescia from 2001 to 2003, regularly returning to the Peninsula for vacations and to catch up with old friends.
“We keep a close eye on Italian football. Pep adores Italy and Italian culture, we talk about it often,” Manchester City assistant manager Manuel Estiarte told Radio Bruno.
“It’s his dream to work in Italy, but as things stand today, there are problems. The culture is completely different in England, they allow you to focus on work during the week.
“In Italy and Spain, the papers have to write something every day and this takes away some of the focus on the work.”
Guardiola has hinted he could soon be looking to move on from Manchester City, especially as they face multiple charges of financial irregularities by the Premier League.
The Spaniard started his coaching career at Barcelona, then moved on to Bayern Munich before landing in Manchester in 2016.
His current contract with the Premier League giants runs to June 2025 and Serie A could in theory be a new experience for him, especially as he already speaks the language and knows the country well.
Of the Italian clubs, the only ones who could probably afford his salary would be Juventus, Milan or Inter.
