Indus Motors to become Pakistan’s first automaker to export to Egypt this month
Karachi: In a major development for Pakistan’s automobile industry, Indus Motor Company (IMC) has signed an agreement with Toyota Egypt to export high-quality products starting this month to become the first local auto manufacturer to take such an international initiative.
The development is expected to encourage other Pakistani automakers to tap the international market at a time when their production activities have suffered due to the country’s dwindling economy.
IMC’s partnership with Toyota Egypt is the first step taken to meet the requirements mentioned in the Auto Industry Development and Export Policy (AIDEP) 2021-2026.
The company has been manufacturing Toyota vehicles in Pakistan for the last several decades.
“To see the ‘Make in Pakistan’ dream cross international borders is a big moment, not just for us but the country too,” said the IMC chief executive, Ali Asghar Jamali, while addressing a ceremony held at the company’s manufacturing unit at Port Qasim on Tuesday.
“Becoming part of Toyota’s global supply chain is an affirmation of IMC’s commitment to see Pakistan on the world map and strengthening its overall economy,” he continued. “We are looking forward to further enhancing our capabilities with this collaboration but it does not stop here; we plan to go further and beyond this to place Pakistan’s auto industry as a symbol of reliability and quality on the globe.”
Jamali said the step taken by his company would also bolster connectivity between Pakistan and Africa, serving the country’s emerging trade priority.
