Marriyum launches 1000 KW DRM transmitter at Rawat

Islamabad: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb on Sunday launched the 1000 KW Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) medium wave transmitter project at Radio Pakistan, Rawat, Islamabad.

The project, which is set to be completed within two years, will revolutionize broadcasting capabilities for Radio Pakistan. The new transmitter will be installed in Rawat and will have the ability to transmit up to four different signals simultaneously. This will significantly enhance the sound quality of Radio Pakistan’s broadcasts, elevating the overall listening experience for audiences. In addition, the cutting-edge technology incorporated in the transmitter will yield significant cost savings for Radio Pakistan, with an estimated 33 percent reduction in electricity consumption. The launch of the 1000 KW DRM transmitter is a major milestone in the history of Radio Pakistan and will allow the broadcaster to reach new audiences around the world. The new transmitter will cover neighboring countries including Nepal, Bangladesh, India, Afghanistan, Iran, UAE, Qatar, Turkmenistan, and will also resonate in more than 52 countries.

Minister Aurangzeb thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, and Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal for their unwavering support in this regard. She also lauded the efforts of Director General of Radio Pakistan Tahir Hassan and his team for their relentless efforts and dedication to the initiative. The launch of the 1000 KW DRM transmitter is a significant development for the broadcasting industry in Pakistan and will help to ensure that Radio Pakistan remains a relevant and important source of information and entertainment for years to come.
