Chinese Model in cotton production suggested

Lahore: Caretaker Punjab Provincial Minister for Energy, Industries, and Commerce SM Tanveer has emphasized the implementation of the Chinese Model in cotton production to achieve high-quality and abundant crops.
During a virtual meeting of the government officials and growers, the minister highlighted the significance of adopting modern technology to enhance per-acre productivity.
Secretary Agriculture South Punjab Saqib Aqeel provided insights that the decline in cotton production was attributed to the lack of quality seeds and outdated technology, resulting in a 60 percent decrease in the crop’s yield.
Despite the challenges, efforts were being made to promote cotton production, with a focus on utilizing artificial intelligence and following the China model to meet cotton production targets.
The minister noted substantial investments in promoting cotton and urged scientists to collaborate with international bodies through joint venture research programs to enhance cotton production. Cotton being a major crop for foreign exchange earnings, it warranted significant attention and efforts.
A special committee, led by Vice Chancellor Muhammad Nawaz Sharif University of Agriculture, was formed to present a comprehensive report on improving cotton crops.
Secretary Agriculture Punjab Iftikhar Ali Sahu also suggested seeking assistance from China and emphasized the importance of coordination and cooperation among local and international scientists in this endeavor.
