Balochistan people unequivocally support CPEC: PM Anwaarul Haq Kakar

Islamabad: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar has said that the people in the Balochistan province unequivocally support the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Speaking to journalists here, the PM contended that the Chinese workers were completely safe in Balochistan.
Kakar, who is himself from Balochistan, stressed that the Balochistan people know the CPEC aims to development in the province and creating jobs.
“Balochistan region supports the projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the government is commitment to ensure the safety of Chinese workers engaged in these projects,” he maintained.
He also mentioned the significant reserves of copper and gold in Balochistan and the upcoming Reko Diq project.
He expressed hope that foreign investment projects worth US $ 25 billion each from Saudi Arabia and the Middle East would materialize within the next two to five years.
He assured the public that his government is actively exploring practical and innovative approaches to alleviate the burden on electricity consumers.
He emphasized the government’s commitment to making well-informed decisions regarding electricity bills while upholding its international financial obligations.
Prime Minister Kakar acknowledged critical issues such as circular debt, power theft, and taxation. He pledged that his administration would introduce short-term solutions to address these concerns without disregarding the concerns of the populace.
Furthermore, he highlighted the caretaker government’s primary mandate of facilitating the upcoming general elections while adhering to constitutional obligations. This includes the need for constituency delimitation following the population census, he added.
Prime Minister Kakar emphasized that the interim government’s primary focus is on revising fiscal and monetary policies to lay the foundation for economic recovery.
He mentioned the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) as a strategic initiative concentrating on sectors like agriculture, mining, defense production, and information technology.
In terms of economic reforms, he revealed plans to privatize two or more power distribution companies and stressed the necessity of reform in the taxation and power sectors. He asserted that his government aimed to provide a framework for mid-level reforms.
