Islamabad: Pakistani Ambassador to China Moinul Haque has said that the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is the flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and a powerful symbol of the strong ties between Pakistan and China.

Speaking to a visiting media delegation representing Pakistani Balochistan province, at the Pakistan Embassy in Beijing, Ambassador Haque provided the delegation with a comprehensive briefing on the state of Pakistan-China bilateral relations, with particular emphasis on the current status of the CPEC.

In the second phase of CPEC, Ambassador Haque informed, the areas of cooperation include science and technology, agriculture, and social sector development.

According to an official statement issued in Islamabad, the envoy emphasized the enduring friendship and strategic partnership between Pakistan and China, noting that both countries have consistently supported each other during challenging times.

Ambassador Haque mentioned China’s significant assistance to Pakistan during the Covid-19 pandemic, including the provision of vaccines, equipment, and medical teams. He also mentioned China’s support during floods in Pakistan, where they sent relief goods to assist the affected population.

Ambassador Haque underscored China’s focus on the Balochistan province and the initiation of various development projects, particularly in Gwadar.

He highlighted the pivotal role of Gwadar Port, the special economic zone, and Gwadar International Airport in the province’s and the country’s development.

He expressed confidence that Gwadar has the potential to become a regional business and trade hub, contributing significantly to the economy and creating job and business opportunities for local residents.

Members of the media delegation praised China’s contributions to the development of Gwadar and Balochistan province.

They cited projects such as Gwadar Port, hospitals, schools, and roads as substantial contributors to regional connectivity and the generation of employment opportunities for local communities. They expressed their willingness to play a positive role in strengthening the bonds between the people of Balochistan and China, further deepening the relations between Pakistan and China.
