Photography competition on CPEC attracts massive interest

Islamabad: Pakistan-China Institute (PCI) is receiving entries for the photography competition showcasing the progress of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a prominent project within China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

On October 5 in Islamabad, a nationwide photography competition was launched on CPEC.

The PCI has been witnessing a surge in participation, with numerous entries pouring in for this contest.

The deadline for submitting photographs for the ‘Nationwide Best Belt & Road Initiative Projects Photography Competition,’ organized by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in collaboration with PCI, is set for October 7, 2023.

The competition, designed to capture the essence and impact of CPEC and other BRI projects in Pakistan, welcomes submissions in three categories: ‘Infrastructure and Development,’ ‘People and Stories,’ and ‘Environmental Impact,’ all due by October 7.

A panel of renowned photographers, artists, and relevant government authorities will judge the entries on October 8-9, with the winners announced on October 10.

To celebrate the competition’s success, a prize distribution ceremony and exhibition will be co-hosted by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Pakistan-China Institute on October 12, 2023. The event is expected to be attended by dignitaries, officials, and members of the media.

Ambreen Jan, Executive Director General of the External Publicity Wing of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, chaired a follow-up meeting to review the competition’s preparations. The meeting, attended by Mustafa Syed, Head of PCI, and Raisa Adil, Deputy Director General of Press Information Department (PID), among other senior officials from the ministry and its affiliated departments, emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to support the competition’s success across various multimedia platforms.

Mustafa Syed provided insights into the competition’s objectives, procedures, and timeline, highlighting that PCI has already received hundreds of entries.

It was revealed that the Pakistan-China Institute, a non-governmental think-tank dedicated to fostering people-to-people ties between Pakistan and China, plans to organize a trip to China for the award winners. This trip will include a detailed itinerary and coordination of all travel logistics.

This meeting followed up on a previous one held on September 25, where Secretary Information and Broadcasting Zahoor Ahmed emphasized that aside from spotlighting CPEC and BRI projects, the photography competition would further strengthen the deep-rooted ties between Pakistan and China.
