Three special athletes from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to participate in Asian Para Games
Peshawar: Three special athletes from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa set off for China to participate in the upcoming Asian Para Games.
Originally postponed due to COVID-19, these games are now scheduled to take place from October 22 to 28 in Hangzhou, under the joint organization of the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) and the Hangzhou Asian Para Games Organizing Committee (HAPGOC).
Representing Pakistan, these three special athletes from Peshawar are set to compete in various sports. Muhammad Ibrahim, who has a standing disability, will participate in table tennis. Altaf Ur Rehman, a bronze medalist at the World Islamic Games, will represent Pakistan in wheelchair table tennis. Ziaur Rahman, also with a standing disability and hailing from Swat, will participate in badminton competitions.
Their departure from Islamabad to Hangzhou, China, marks a significant moment for the province and the country. Muhammad Ibrahim has previous experience representing Pakistan in various international events, including the Para Asian Games in Incheon and the Asian Games in Korea in 2015.
The athletes, Muhammad Ibrahim and Altaf Ur Rehman, expressed their hope for success and noted that Zia Ullah from Swat has dedicated substantial effort to prepare for the competition, raising optimism about their prospects.
Muhammad Ibrahim, a gold medalist in the Asian Paralympic competitions held in South Korea, aims to repeat his success, while Altaf Ur Rehman, who won a bronze medal in the World Islamic Games, looks to add to Pakistan’s medal count in wheelchair table tennis, marking a significant achievement in the country’s 76-year history.
