British’s High Commissioner Jane Marriot discusses stronger UK-Pakistan ties with Ishaq Dar

British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriot held a meeting with Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Leader of the House, at the Parliament House on Friday.

The meeting focused on various topics of mutual interest and emphasized the enduring relationship between the United Kingdom and Pakistan, a Senate Secretariat statement said.

During the meeting, Senator Dar briefed the High Commissioner on Pakistan’s economic performance from 2013 to 2017, when it became the 24th global economy and successfully eliminated daily average load shedding of 18 hours, while also increasing investment in the public sector.

He highlighted the commitment of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) to free and fair elections and creating a level playing field for all political parties.

Senator Dar also discussed the business environment in Pakistan, expressing hope that the winning political party in the 2024 general elections would accelerate the privatization of state-owned enterprises that were incurring losses. He emphasized the importance of enhancing trade and business volumes between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.

The Leader of the House stressed the significance of agricultural development for ensuring food security in Pakistan and highlighted the potential of the mining industry for the nation’s future economic growth.
