China-Pakistan training forum on “Livestock Disease Control” organised

Lahore: The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS), in conjunction with the Livestock and Dairy Development Department Punjab and China Agriculture University, organized a China-Pakistan training forum focused on “Livestock Disease Control” here.

During the inaugural session, Chief Executive Officer Punjab Agriculture Research Board, Dr. Abid Mahmood, emphasized the importance of acquiring new technologies to meet international standards, particularly in enhancing dairy and meat product exports. The collaborative partnership between UVAS and Chinese academic and business entities was highlighted as beneficial for academic advancement, research, and export enhancement.

The concluding session, chaired by Secretary Livestock & Dairy Development Department Punjab, Muhammad Masood Anwar, featured the Chinese Council General Mr. Zhao Shiren as the guest of honor. Various dignitaries, including Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Nasim Ahmad, Project Leader College of Veterinary Medicine, China Agriculture University Prof Dr. He Cheng, and Director Institute of Microbiology Prof Dr. Aftab Ahmed Anjum, along with stakeholders from dairy, livestock, meat, and veterinary pharmaceutical industries, were present.

In his speech, Dr. Abid Mahmood stressed the necessity of such training to control major livestock diseases, praising the collaboration with Chinese entities for its potential benefits to both countries.

On the occasion, Masood Anwar highlighted the livestock department’s efforts to meet international standards for dairy and meat exports, emphasizing the establishment of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) disease-free compartments in Punjab.

Professor Dr. Nasim Ahmed called on Chinese assistance for biologics production, vaccine development, and the promotion of Pak-China linkages.

Zhao Shiren expressed full support for UVAS and Chinese collaboration, pledging a constructive role in promoting academic and business linkages and enhancing trade ties between Pakistan and China.

Professor Dr. He Cheng acknowledged UVAS’s efforts in arranging the successful event, emphasizing how the training forum serves as a bridge between the two countries to address the challenge of controlling major livestock diseases and uplift exports of dairy and meat products to Chinese markets.

In his remarks, Dr. Aftab Ahmed Anjum outlined the aim and objectives of the training, presented topics, and delivered a vote of thanks.
