Italy and Azerbaijan team up to train power generation experts
Rome: Italy’s Ansaldo Energia and Politecnico di Torino, as well as Azerbaijan’s Azenererji OJSC and the ADA University of Baku have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop an energy training center in Baku, Indonesia.
The training center will include an educational center and a laboratory and will be built inside the 400MW Shimal combined cycle power plant managed by power producer Azerenerji.
The initiative forms part of the University Italy – Azerbaijan collaboration project which aims to prepare qualified professionals for new technologies in the energy sector.
The initiative was launched in 2021 and intends to build management capacity and manpower in strategic sectors such as urban studies, engineering and sustainable energy.
The training programme will act as a transfer hub of knowledge, research, technology and innovation between the two countries.
According to the International Energy Agency, Azerbaijan’s energy mix is fossil fuel-heavy, with oil and gas accounting for more than 98% of total supply. This heavy reliance on fossil fuels elevates GHG emissions and exposes the country to fuel price fluctuation risks.
