Pakistan Railways, China’s NRA vow to complete ML-1 as “transformative force” in Pakistan’s transportation sector
Islamabad: Pakistan Railways and China’s National Railway Administration (NRA) have vowed to complete the Main Line One (ML-1) project under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as a “transformative force” in Pakistan’s transportation sector.
The ML-1 project, as affirmed by Secretary of Railways Syed Mazhar Ali Shah, will significantly boost revenue for Pakistan Railways.
In a meeting with a delegation from China’s National Railway Administration (NRA), Secretary Shah emphasized the project’s pivotal role in Pakistan’s social and economic advancement.
The NRA, recognizing China as a close ally or ‘Iron Brother,’ pledged close collaboration to expedite the ML-1 project’s ground operations, with the Chinese government assuring full support for its swift completion.
The collaborative efforts between Pakistan and China on the ML-1 project aim to revolutionize Pakistan’s railway system, fostering economic progress for both nations.
Recent discussions between Pakistan Railway Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Amir Baloch and the Chinese delegation also underscored the urgency of swift action on the ML-1 project.
Baloch had highlighted the exceptional cooperation between Pakistan and China in energy and transport, citing ML-1 as a transformative initiative that will reshape Pakistan’s transport landscape and bolster revenue in the freight sector.
The assurance of collaborative efforts from both sides, encompassing financing and design aspects, signifies a significant stride in strengthening economic ties and reducing transportation costs through the establishment of economic zones linked to ML-1.
