Pakistan aims $ 25 billion exports to China

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Commerce and Industries Dr Ejaz Gohar has expressed his vision to elevate Pakistan’s exports to China to a substantial US $25 billion, fostering increased trade collaboration between the two neighboring nations.

In a meeting with the newly appointed Economic Counsellor of China to Pakistan, Yang Guangyuan, Dr Gohar Ejaz shared insights from his recent visits to China, emphasizing the warm reception and positive initiatives taken to enhance economic cooperation.

During the exchange, Minister Ejaz outlined the primary purpose of his visits to China, aiming to witness the country’s impressive progress and identify new market segments for Pakistani exports. He unveiled an ambitious 5-year plan, targeting a US $25 billion benchmark for Pakistan’s exports to China.

Yang Guangyuan commended Dr Ejaz’s efforts and congratulated him on the successful visit, reinforcing China’s commitment to a robust economic partnership and describing the deep-rooted friendship between the two nations as “iron brothers.”

In alignment with China’s goal to increase its trade volume, Minister Ejaz emphasized his vision for Pakistan’s economic progress through “trade not aid,” resonating with Guangyuan’s sentiments. Discussions included potential collaboration on establishing export processing zones, with the Chinese side expressing interest in relocating industries to Pakistan for access to African and Central Asian markets.

Dr Ejaz highlighted Pakistan’s strategic and economical route to Central Asian Republics, offering access for China.

Yang expressed interest in exploring this opportunity for mutual benefit, welcoming Minister Ejaz to visit China’s Guangzhou and Shandong provinces to further enhance bilateral trade ties. Both expressed optimism about the future of economic cooperation, pledging to work together towards the shared goal of increased trade and prosperity.
