Rome: US privately-held agribusiness giant Cargill Inc has sealed a deal with pan-European renewables developer Galileo Green Energy to procure power from a 79-MW solar farm under development in southern Italy.

The companies have signed a 10-year power purchase agreement (PPA) which secures the supply of about 1 TWh of clean electricity to the food company over the contracted period, according to a press statement released today.

“Renewable energy will continue to play a critical role in helping us decarbonise our operations,” said Christina Yagjian, Cargill Global Renewable Energy Leader.

The deal with Galileo will allow Cargill to eliminate 450,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emission.
