Greece schedules first green certificates auction in June
Athens: Greece’s maiden tender for Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGOs) will be launched on June 26, 2024, domestic renewable energy market operator DAPEEP announced.
The round will be the first of three REGOs auctions to be held this year and will offer certificates issued for electricity produced from renewable power plants in the closing quarter of 2023.
Three different packages of REGOs will be available in the public offering. For each of them, a separate auction will be held over three hours. Specifically, two of the categories will cover REGOs tied to renewable power plants feeding power to the mainland grid – one for grid-connected solar photovoltaic (PV) parks, and another one for wind farms. The third slot will be for solar and wind farms in Non-Interconnected island areas.
Local media previously reported that Greece’s REGOs register will be linked with those of other European countries, enabling domestically-issued green energy certificates to be visible at all European markets signed up to the Association of Issuing Bodies (AIB).
The second and third editions of REGOs auctions will be held at the end of September and on December 11. They will offer certificates for power produced in the first quarter of 2024 and the second quarter of 2024, respectively.
