Greece backs Biden’s Gaza cease-fire plan, urges end to humanitarian tragedy
Athens: Greece voiced its full support for US President Joe Biden’s proposed roadmap for a cease-fire in Gaza on Monday, aligning with efforts to bring an end to the ongoing hostilities.
The Greek Foreign Ministry emphasized its endorsement of Biden’s plan, which advocates for a cease-fire, the release of all hostages, unimpeded humanitarian access, the withdrawal of Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) from Gaza, and comprehensive reconstruction efforts. Additionally, Greece underscored the urgent need to halt the humanitarian tragedy unfolding in Gaza, emphasizing that decisive action is imperative to alleviate the suffering of civilians caught in the crossfire.
Furthermore, the Greek Foreign Ministry emphasized the importance of international efforts focusing on achieving a lasting peace in the Middle East. Stressing the necessity of addressing the root causes of the conflict, Greece reiterated its commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at fostering enduring peace and stability in the region.
Biden’s three-phase proposal, which outlines measures to end hostilities and secure the release of hostages in Gaza, received endorsement from Greece, alongside other nations advocating for peace. Despite the call for acceptance from both sides, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continuing the offensive until all objectives are achieved.
In response, the Palestinian resistance group expressed willingness to engage with any proposal that includes a permanent cease-fire, full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, reconstruction efforts, repatriation of displaced individuals, and comprehensive hostage exchange arrangements. As diplomatic efforts intensify to broker a cease-fire and pave the way for long-term peace, Greece’s support adds momentum to the collective push for humanitarian relief and lasting resolution in the Gaza conflict.
