Italy to provide Samp-T battery in new military aid for Ukraine

Rome: Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani on Tuesday confirmed the forthcoming Italian military package supporting Ukraine, including another Samp-T battery.

“I fully agree” with my Ukrainian counterpart, Dmytro Kuleba, that “Ukraine’s priority should be to protect its infrastructure and buildings with air defence systems. Italy is prepared to send a new military assistance package that includes a Samp-T battery,” stated the Foreign Minister during his speech at the Ukraine Reconstruction Conference in Berlin, Germany.

This announcement comes two days after the European elections, in which the party of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni (Fratelli d’Italia), which is strongly pro-Ukraine, reaffirmed itself as the leading party in Italy and strengthened its position.

Italy is one of the countries involved in the new Ukraine Communications Group (UCG) based in Warsaw. It was launched yesterday by the joint efforts of the United States and Poland to support Ukraine in defending against Russia’s aggression in the information space.

The reconstruction of Ukraine. Foreign Minister Tajani announced Italy’s investment of 140 million euros to support Ukraine’s infrastructure, railways, agriculture, health, and demining.

Italy, taking a proactive stance, will strongly advocate for Ukraine and its reconstruction during the upcoming G7 summit, which it will host this week. The Foreign Minister emphasised that Italy’s companies are ready to invest in various areas, not just military aid, demonstrating our unwavering support for Ukraine.

Specifically, Italy will also be hosting the 2025 Conference on the Reconstruction of Ukraine.
