Monsoon onset to bring increased rainfall across Pakistan

Lahore: The country’s chief meteorologist has announced the start of the monsoon season in Pakistan between June and July, with an above-normal rainfall expected in southern Sindh, including Karachi.

However, the forecast is subject to change as the season progresses.

Shahid Abbas, Chief Meteorologist of Lahore, during an interview with a local TV channel, predicted that the monsoon rains could begin by the end of June, potentially bringing heavier rainfall than usual.

Abbas also highlighted that, although the monsoon season has not yet started in India, the pre-monsoon effects there are already influencing the weather in Pakistan.

Meteorological experts anticipate that Karachi might see the onset of monsoon rains starting early July. A medium-intensity low-pressure system expected to form over the North Arabian Sea by June 30 could trigger Karachi’s first monsoon rains in early July.

With predictions of a wetter-than-usual monsoon season, both Lahore and Karachi are preparing for significant rainfall in the upcoming weeks.
