PCJCCI chief urged Pakistan to follow China’s ‘Digital China’ initiative

Lahore: President of the Pakistan China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI) Moazzam Ghurki has urged Pakistan to follow China’s ‘Digital China’ initiative.

He emphasized that Pakistan needs to take concrete steps to enhance reforms related to the market-oriented allocation of data elements and expedite the construction of digital infrastructure, such as industrial internet and computing power networks.

He stressed that this was part of a larger initiative to develop a ‘Digital Pakistan,’ akin to China’s ‘Digital China’ strategy.

The CPJCCI highlighted this during a meeting here. He noted that China introduced a comprehensive plan for its digital development last year, aiming for significant progress in building a Digital China by 2025.

“We can learn from this model, which provides extensive information for advancing the development of data-related fundamental institutions, integrating, sharing, developing, and applying data resources, and planning and constructing a Digital China, encompassing a digital economy and society,” Ghurki maintained.

Fang Yulong, Senior Vice President of PCJCCI, stressed the importance of establishing and refining a data property rights system, creating policies to facilitate the efficient circulation and trading of data in a compliant manner, and developing a revenue distribution and security governance system for data.

He mentioned that Pakistan should, like China, accelerate research on data security technologies, support the digital, intelligent, and green transformation of industries, enhance international cooperation in the digital economy, and continuously optimize regulations concerning cross-border data flow.

On this occasion Khalid, Vice President of PCJCCI, contended that China has released guidelines to expand the application of data elements across various fields, foster new growth drivers, and create new industries and business models.

He said that efforts will be intensified to advance the utilization and development of data elements. The focus will be on leveraging the multiplier effect of data and building digital infrastructure and data resource systems.

In his comments, Salahuddin Hanif, Secretary General of PCJCCI, called for accelerating the establishment of a national computing network and data circulation infrastructure.

He noted that digital technologies are increasingly being applied across various industries in Pakistan, highlighting the importance of further developing these technologies to support the country’s digital transformation.
