Bulgaria’s foreign debt down 2% y/y in April

Sofia: Bulgaria’s overall gross external debt fell by an annual 2% to some 43.1 billion euro ($46.1 billion) at the end of April, compared to an annual rise of 0.4% in March, the central bank said on Friday.

Gross external debt at the end of the first four months of 2024 represented 42.6% of the gross domestic product (GDP) forecast for the current year, the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) said in a monthly report.

In April 2023, Bulgaria’s foreign debt was equivalent to 46.9% of last year’s GDP.

At some 10.43 billion euro in the review period, the general government gross foreign debt grew by 9.2% compared to the end of April 2023 and was equal to 10.3% of the projected 2024 GDP.
