Italy on alert due to an increase in the eruptive activity of Mount Etna Volcano
Italy has raised the alert level for Mount Etna, located on the island of Sicily and the most active volcano in Europe, due to lava emissions and tremors, and the risk of it quickly entering into “more energetic activity,” although for now it remains at a low to medium level, as reported by Civil Protection.
The Department “ordered the transition from green alert level to yellow” and urged their Sicily teams to take “risk implementation measures, especially regarding the presence of high-altitude hikers,” as explained in a statement.
In the images accompanying this article, you can see how volcanic activity has resumed in its southeast crater with ash and lava emission. It is an impressive sight and, although it should be visited cautiously, it offers a unique opportunity to observe volcanic activity up close.
