UNHCR welcomes Government of Pakistan’s decision to extend PoR cards for Afghan refugees

Islamabad: UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency Thursday welcomed the Government of Pakistan’s decision to extend the Proof of Registration (PoR) cards for one year, until 30 June 2025.

“This announcement brings a wave of relief for Afghan refugees, and shows Pakistan’s proud tradition of hospitality continues,” said UNHCR’s Representative in Pakistan, Philippa Candler.

Candler acknowledged and commended the country for hosting Afghans for many decades amid their own challenges.

“The people of Pakistan have long shown solidarity and compassion towards those displaced and in need. I look forward to continuing to work with the Government and the international community to drive support to host communities while also searching for longer-term solutions for Afghans in Pakistan.”
