EasyJet to begin new Portugal to Cape Verde flights
Lisbon: The National Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC) has approved easyJet’s new routes from Portugal to Cape Verde. The airline will now connect the airports of Porto and Lisbon to the island of Sal.
In the rulings published in the Official Gazette, the regulatory body states that “since the applicant (easyJet Europe) has complied with the requirements for this purpose (…) authorisation is granted to operate scheduled air services outside the European Union, on the Porto/Sal/Porto route and the Lisbon/Sal/Lisbon route”.
The first low-cost flight to Cape Verde from Portugal will take place on 29 October, connecting Lisbon to the island of Sal. The Porto/Sal connection will follow the following day.
easyJet will offer four weekly flights between Lisbon and Sal, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Two weekly flights will depart from Porto, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, according to the general director of the airline.
The connection between Portugal and Cape Verde will be easyJet’s first in West Africa and its first route beyond the Sahara, said the company’s general director in Portugal, José Lopes.
The company’s general director in Portugal also assured that “once these routes are consolidated, [the company will be able] to look at other destinations in Cape Verde”.
