Chinese investors to establish electric bike manufacturing plant in Punjab

Lahore: A prominent group of Chinese investors met with Punjab’s Provincial Minister for Industries and Commerce, Chaudhry Shafay Hussain, at the Punjab Investment Board.

The meeting focused on fostering cooperation in key sectors, including technical education, the Information Technology (IT) industry, and the electric vehicle market.

The Chinese investors expressed strong interest in establishing an electric bike manufacturing plant in Punjab, a project that aligns with the provincial government’s commitment to promoting electric vehicles as a means to combat environmental pollution.

Minister Chaudhry Shafay Hussain emphasized the government’s dedication to this cause, noting that 10,000 electric bikes would be distributed to university and college students.

He assured the Chinese investors that the government would provide all necessary support and facilities to facilitate the establishment of the electric bike plant.

Highlighting Punjab’s robust industrial infrastructure, Chaudhry Shafay Hussain pointed out that the province’s industrial estates offer special incentives and abundant opportunities for investment, particularly within the special economic zones.

He welcomed Chinese investment in Punjab’s electric sector, underscoring the strategic importance of these initiatives.

The Minister also discussed the Punjab government’s efforts to promote solar energy, including plans to establish a solar panel manufacturing facility in the province within the year. Additionally, there is a push to transition industrial estates to solar energy as part of broader efforts to increase economic cooperation between Pakistan and China.

Chaudhry Shafay Hussain further mentioned the government’s initiative to enhance the quality of technical education by upgrading TEVTA (Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority) institutions, a project that is already underway. He welcomed the potential collaboration with the Chinese company in advancing technical education in the region.

CEO of the Chinese company, Niko Chan, expressed his group’s enthusiasm for collaborating with local businesses in the electric vehicle sector. He confirmed plans to establish an electric bike manufacturing plant in Punjab and to build associated charging stations.

The investor group also requested six kanals of land for the construction of a research center, indicating their commitment to long-term investment in the region.

The meeting was attended by officials from various Chinese companies as well as officers from the Punjab Investment Board, reflecting the significance of this partnership for the future of Punjab’s industrial and economic landscape.
