Track Cycling: Italy snatches gold from the British
Rome: The women’s track cycling pairs final took place at the National Velodrome in Paris. The final was closely contested between the Italians and the British, but in the end the gold medal went to the Mediterranean team.
The Italian pair, made up of Vittoria Guazzini and Chiara Consonni, won the final and took the coveted gold medal. They were crowned with 37 points, 6 points ahead of the British duo.
In second place, was the British pair with 31 points. The British duo of Neah Evans and Elinor Barker. Finally, the last medal went to Maike Van Der Duin and Lisa Van Belle, from the Dutch team. They scored 28 points, just 3 points short of the silver medal.
In fourth place was the United States team, composed of Jennifer Valente and Lily Williams with a total of 18 points. Just behind them was France, formed by Marion Borras and Clara Copponi, with the local team in fifth position with 17 points, just one point less than the Americans.
Sixth place went to Denmark, with Amalie Dideriksen and Julie Norman Leth, who accumulated 16 points. They were also just one point behind the French. Thus, it can be seen that from fourth to sixth position, there was only a difference of two points.
In seventh position were the athletes from Poland, with the sisters Wiktoria and Daria Pikulik. They reached seventh place with 14 points. In eighth place was New Zealand, represented by Bryony Botha and Emily Shearman, with a total of 7 points in this final. In the last positions were Australia, with Georgia Baker and Alexandra Manly, with only 6 points, while Belgium, with Helene Hesters and Katrijn De Clercq, was in last place with 5 points.
