Portugal: Foreign investment at record highs
Lisbon: The FDI stock increased by around 4.6 billion euros compared to the first quarter of this year and ten billion euros compared to the first quarter of 2023, with FDI transactions increasing to 3.121 billion euros in the second quarter of 2024, above the one billion euros recorded in the first quarter.
The value for the second quarter is also the highest since 1996, the beginning of the supervisor’s historical series.
Among the regions with the greatest weight in FDI in Portugal are the European Union (139.7 billion euros), Asia (11.3 billion euros), America (9.9 billion euros), and the CPLP (seven billion euros).
At the same time, Portugal’s Direct Investment abroad (IPE) also increased, amounting to 67,562.88 million euros. This value represents 25% of the national GDP.
BdP data also reveals that the IDP stock grew by 2.18 billion euros compared to the first quarter of the year and 1.7 billion euros compared to the same period in 2023.
