Record 24 mn in employment in Italy in July: ISTAT
Rome: The number of people in employment in Italy in July exceeded by 9,000 units the 24 million threshold and the employment rate reached a new record of 62.3%, ISTAT reported on Friday, releasing its monthly estimate on the number of employed and unemployed workers.
On a monthly basis, employment grew by 56,000 units; on an annual basis, by 490,000 units, the national statistics bureau said.
Unemployment in the eurozone meanwhile was 6.4% in July from 6.5% in June while in the EU it was stable at 6%, Eurostat said.
In Italy, it decreased to 6.5% from 6.9% the previous month.
In addition, according to preliminary estimates, in the month of August, the consumer price index for the whole nation (NIC), including tobacco, increased by 0.2% on a monthly basis and by 1.1% on an annual basis, from +1,3% the previous month, ISTAT said.
