Many drivers will be forced to take ‘compulsory’ £95 course this Autumn
London: Dozens of motorists across the UK will be told to take a mandatory driving test in 2024 due to the introduction of new camera technology.
New AI cameras being rolled out across the UK can detect more than just road users breaking the speed limit.
The tech can also pick up whether motorists have their seatbelt property fitted or are using a mobile phone behind the wheel.
Motorists caught breaking the rules will be slapped with an on-the-spot £100 fine which could rise up to £500 if a case goes to court.
However, Graham Conway, Managing Director at Select Car Leasing, warns road users could face a different kind of punishment.
He warns some drivers are now being told to take a compulsory online course to teach them the basics of seatbelt safety.
This is sort of like a speed awareness course with some motorists forced to pay almost £100 to attend.
He explained: “You can also be made to complete a mandatory online education course, with prices for the privilege ranging between £54 and £95.
“Your Belt Your Life (YBYL) and What’s Driving Us? (WDU) courses are given to people who have failed to use a seat belt or who have flouted child seat rules. The courses are 30 minutes long and have a test at the end, with motorists needing to pass.”
