Greenhouse cucumbers lead with a 10.6% hike in Bulgaria

Sofia: In Bulgaria, the latest data from the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Markets reveals a general uptick in the prices of various fruits and vegetables, with a few exceptions. The market price index (MPI), a barometer for wholesale food prices within the nation, has ascended to 2,079 points, marking a 0.68 percent increase from the preceding week’s 2,065 points.

Notably, greenhouse cucumbers have seen a 10.6 percent price hike, now trading at 3.10 leva per kilogram. Similarly, open-field tomatoes have surged by 10.2 percent to 1.75 leva per kilogram, and red peppers have experienced a 3.1 percent rise to 1.91 leva per kilogram. In contrast, green peppers have slightly declined by 1.7 percent, priced at 1.72 leva per kilogram.

Other staples such as potatoes, carrots, and cabbage have also seen price increases, while ripe onions have dipped by 1.5 percent to 1.07 leva per kilogram. In the fruit sector, lemons, bananas, and peaches have become more expensive, whereas watermelons and grapes have seen price reductions.
